HSE Coordinator
Position: Health, Safety, and Environmental (HSE) Coordinator
Job Type: 18-Month Contract, Full-Time, 14/7 Rotation
Location: Edmonton or Calgary, Alberta to start, then site-based in Kitimat, British Columbia
Pay Range: $72,000 to $90,000 annually, plus an additional 25% of base salary

Purpose of the Role
SB Canada is hiring experienced HSE Coordinators to support a major industrial deep foundations project in Kitimat, BC. This is a field-focused role. You will spend most of your time on site with crews, supervisors and the client, leading inspections, verifying critical controls, supporting incident reviews and keeping site compliance and documentation on track.
We are looking for hands-on field HSE professionals who are confident engaging with crews and clients, and who help build a culture where people feel comfortable speaking up. This is a site-based role on a 14/7 rotation.
Key Responsibilities of the Role
In the field
Walk job sites daily, observe work and talk with crews.
Lead and support hazard assessments, including JHAs and energy-based risk reviews.
Participate in inspections, audits and safety tours, including client and regulatory inspections.
Verify that critical controls are in place and working.
Assist with incident reviews and gather accurate information.
Work in active, sometimes physically demanding environments.
Working with teams
Support supervisors and project teams with safety planning.
Communicate with clients, contractors and regulatory bodies as required.
Drive consistency in HSE documentation and expectations across teams.
Contribute to a culture where people feel comfortable speaking up.
Systems, reporting, and follow-up
Track incidents, actions and improvements in HSE systems (e.g. Flex Manager).
Follow up on corrective actions from incidents and audits through to closure.
Support monthly reporting and trend tracking.
Maintain site compliance records and assist with safety program documentation and updates.
Training and communication
Develop and deliver toolbox talks, workshops and safety materials.
Turn lessons learned into clear, practical takeaways.
Create or support visual, engaging safety communications.
Planning and project support
Assist with project-specific hazard assessments and safety plans.
Support pre-job planning, tender reviews and contract HSE requirements.
Contribute to emergency response planning.

Qualifications – What Will Make You Successful
Education
Diploma or certificate in Occupational Health and Safety, Environmental Health or a related field, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
Experience
2+ years in a field-based HSE role in construction, oil & gas, energy/renewable energy, nuclear industries, or equivalent.
Major project or industrial construction experience is preferred.
Hands-on experience with site inspections, audits, hazard assessments and incident investigations.
Experience working directly with clients, crews and regulators on site compliance.
Soft Skills
Confident, approachable communicator who builds trust with crews and supervisors.
Able to hold the line on safety standards while staying practical and solutions-focused.
Strong attention to detail in documentation and follow-up.
Self-directed and comfortable working independently in the field.
Comfortable with remote site work, camp living and a rotational schedule.
Preferred Skills
Working knowledge of WorkSafeBC and Alberta OHS legislation.
Experience with HSE management systems such as Flex Manager.
Experience on deep foundations, piling or heavy civil projects.
Ability to create clear, visual safety communications.
Required Designations or Certifications
Standard First Aid and CPR.
Valid driver’s licence.
